A leadership and communication club

A building located in Petion Ville but extended on Route Canape-vert, the narrow road has houses on both sides; made of bricks down a small hill; from up the hill, you can barely see a gas station and on top of the wall surrounded the place it is written ‘‘INSHAC’’; this is the place where all the Toastmasters from Impact Club meet every Wednesday evening and it's like a family meeting. A place where about 30 or sometimes 40 young people come for learning and developing new communication and leadership skills every Wednesday evening. There, communication Technic and leadership activities of all kinds are developed and on a friendship environmental aspect.

‘‘Is it time already because I would be glad to help you out since there are lots of things to do here?’’, I stared at the clock on the wall hanged just in front of me, next to my friend, some Toastmaster members: Rosulme Fignolson, TM.Agnant and TM.Osnel Saint Jack.

The title "TM" in a Toastmasters Club means Toast Master, that's the way we call members of any Toastmasters Club. The member TM.Agnant has been helping Impact club for more than 5 years, at that time I didn't even know if such movement exist since I became a Toastmaster member at Impact, on December 2009.I spent most of my time at home to train myself by putting in practice the communication technics that I learned at Impact club. The objective of my presence at a Toastmasters club was to practice my English but I didn't know that it was supposed to be based only on communication and leadership practice. Some sort of a debating club but in a higher level, so in one word, this club is a place to head up a new successful direction.

Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Today, Toastmasters members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 13,000 clubs in 116 countries. A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. A typical group has 20 to 40 members who meet weekly, biweekly or monthly. A typical meeting lasts 60–90 minutes. If someone wants to join this movement now or have more details, the Toastmasters website is available now : www.toastmasters.org

When I first joined the club, I immediately started delivering speeches and sharing information about the possibility of having a Toastmasters club in my small community and my house. One Wednesday afternoon, I was already rehearsing a speech then I stepped out of the room for me to analyze the advantages of being a part of a Toastmasters club and it is a terrific opportunity that is being offered to the Haitian youth to improve their communication and leadership skills by being in a club where communication and leadership skills are practiced as we all know the Haitian society really need urgently GOOD LEADERS and COMMUNICATORS.One important aspect in a society is to be a GOOD LEADER, ONE HAS TO BE A GOOD COMMUNICATOR FIRST.

After all, we can definitely admit that a leadership and communication club is not only helping members but also the whole Haitian society. Right after being conscious of those facts, some deep thinking  struck my mind again as I was still walking with small pace out of the yard at INSHAC. Bad situations of any country are always resolved by leaders but to be good leaders, one has to be a good communicator, I repeated it to myself again; Throughout history, leaders are always those who take initiatives and get things changed for the best. The Toastmasters International movement, is the main mission of a Non-governmental organization programs which helps perform psychological development in the mind of anyone who accepts to be part of it.
There MUST be more than "some leadership and communication clubs" in Haiti and why not turning each family, into a Toastmasters Club?
